BEA aims to cut integration headaches with new product

BEA systems has released further details of WebLogic Collaborate, the company’s business-to-business software integration solution.

BEA systems has released further details of WebLogic Collaborate, the company’s business-to-business software integration solution.

Code-named “Project E-Collaborate” until its release this autumn, Web Logic Collaborate is billed as a solution that will cut through the integration headaches related to tying corporate databases together with information systems of customers and suppliers.

“Dynamic business collaborain on the Internet is a strategic imperative,” said Barbara Britton, president of the BEA e-commerce integration division.

“BEA WebLogic Collaborate dramatically lowers the B2B technology barrier to entry, and enables any company to create its own e-market for launching new business initiatives, manage supply chains, or build breakthrough B2B exchanges.

"Point-to-point XML and process products on the market today simply cannot meet these challenges,” she added.

Standards-based Approach

Online exchanges have come under criticism recently for their inflexibility, with suppliers and customers having to engineer their ERP systems into proprietary models dictated by the exchanges.

Some analysts have suggested that there is little more advantage to these types of exchanges over proprietary EDI systems.

BEA WebLogic Collaborate promises to overcome this hurdle with a more open, standards-based approach. To join an exchange, participants merely download XML enablers that allow them to start trading instantly.
