Beverage companies form new association

Industry professionals from across the region have joined forces to launch the Arab Beverages Association in a bid to improve relations within the burgeoning market.

Industry professionals from across the region have joined forces to launch the Arab Beverages Association in a bid to improve relations within the burgeoning market.

Dubai-based beverage consultancy Taaheel FZ LLC is behind the move, which has been launched as an offshoot to the inaugural Arab Beverages Forum, held in Dubai last month.

Juice companies Faragalla Group of Egypt and Al-Rabie of Saudi Arabia will also support the association, with plans to introduce ‘chapters' in those countries after Dubai.

"This gathering of beverage industry executives is a welcome development for companies, because the Arab beverage market is a very important and dynamic one, in which we can learn from each other," said Monther Al Harthi, managing director, Al-Rabie.

The first Qatrah Awards ceremony was also held at the forum, which recognised the efforts of beverage manufacturers, such as Activia and Danao juice milk from Al-Safi-Danone for the best dairy and juice beverage prizes.

Lipton tea from Unilever received the award for best hot beverage and Celsius calorie-burning cola from Joseph and Gionis triumphed in the best carbonated soft drink category.
