Blair talks Palestine in Dubai

Former British prime minister briefs UAE officials, including Sheikh Mohammed, on mission in region.

Narrowing the differences between Palestine and Israel is central to his mission to the Middle East, former British prime minister Tony Blair said on Sunday.

The Quartet Committee's special envoy to the Middle East briefed UAE officials on his hopes to reach a "just and honourable" solution that would lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, reported state news agency Wam.

Blair was received by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, at his Za’abeel palace.

Sheikh Mohammed urged Blair to use his political experience and exert "great efforts" to solve the problem, and to recognise the issue deserved more attention from the UN and world powers, Wam reported.
