Blaze destroys Abu Dhabi paper and carpet factory

Firefighters in battle as facilities in Musaffah go up in flames, no reports of casualties.

A massive fire gutted a paper and carpet factory in Musaffah in Abu Dhabi on Saturday evening, the UAE daily Gulf News reprted on Sunday.

"The fire broke out at the Abu Dhabi Paper and Carpet Factory around 5:40 pm and we are still trying to control it", the paper quoted a civil defence official as saying.

Over nine fire fighting units, military and rescue officials called out to control the blaze, the paper said.

The factory is located in the industrial area in Sanayya, close to Al-Jaber Establishment, it added.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. "It is too early to give further details about the extent of the damage but it is similar to the fire that happened in Mina area in May," the official said.

There were no casualties, a rescue department official told the paper.
