Blu-ray makes regional debut

Samsung Gulf Electronics has officially introduced the first Blu-ray DVD player to the Middle East market.

Samsung Gulf Electronics has officially introduced the first Blu-ray DVD player to the Middle East market.

The model, designated BDP1000, has achieved considerable success for the company in international markets including North America, Europe and the Far East, since its launch in the third quarter of 2006.

It also attracted considerable interest from delegates at last November’s GITEX 2006 exhibition staged in Dubai.

The release of the player marks a major step in the availability of high definition content in the Middle East, although its hefty retail price tag of US$1,300 means it is likely to only appeal to the privileged few.
