Boeing 787 Dreamliner touches down in Abu Dhabi

Etihad Airways welcomes new 300-passenger capacity Boeing aircraft to UAE capital

Boeing 787 Dreamliner touches down in Abu Dhabi
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has a capacity of up to 300 passengers and a range of 14,800km.

The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner has made its first visit to Abu Dhabi, with the aircraft touching down in the UAE capital on Wednesday evening.

Etihad Airways, which has 41 of the 300-passenger capacity aircraft on order for a total of US$9.3bn, welcomed the plane to the UAE capital after it arrived from Casablanca, Morocco.

"This aircraft is the future and our decision to opt for the 787 Dreamliner is testimony to our commitment t operating one of the youngest and most fuel efficient fleets in the skies," said Etihad CEO James Hogan in a statement.

Deliveries to Etihad are scheduled to begin in 4Q2014 and once complete the UAE carrier will be the largest operator of the 787 Dreamliner in the world. Etihad has options and purchase rights for a further 25 of the aircraft.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has a capacity of up to 300 passengers and a range of 14,800km.

When the aircraft joins the Etihad fleet it will be used to service routes from Abu Dhabi including Dublin, Frankfurt, Kuala Lumpur, Beijing, Nagoya, Delhi and Istanbul.

Rival carrier Qatar Airways will be the first Middle East customer of the Boeing 787, with 60 aircraft on order, including options.

The Doha-based airline is preparing to take delivery of five 787s during 2012, with the first set to arrive in Qatar this summer.

What and exciting new aircraft. Canadians are rightly proud of manufacturing many of the Wing components here in Winnipeg.Etihad and Emirates must be very excited to receive such and excellent aircraft .Air Canada is also looking forward to its 37 787s it has ordered. It is good share a mutual bright future with such outstanding products coming to the market place.

More good news Canadian 787 Dream liner will fly Toronto direct to Mumbai as one of its first new routes in to the new integrated Indian Airport.It was thought Manila would be the first long haul direct due to 600,000 Filipinos population here in Canada.
