Braun raises awareness of cardiovascular health

Braun is aiming to promote the importance of cardiovascular health and hypertension awareness.

Braun has targeted pharmacists with a new campaign designed to promote the importance of cardiovascular health and hypertension awareness. The company delivered ‘Healthy Heart Hampers’ to over fifty pharmacies; the packages contained relaxing supplements such as herbal tea and massagers, bars of dark chocolate containing antioxidants known to help cardiovascular health, and sports towels for exercise. Also included were tips on keeping a healthy heart along with a fact sheet on proper use of Braun’s new blood pressure monitor, the BP3550.

Known as the silent killer, high blood pressure often remains undetected despite being an indicator of cardiovascular diseases and other potentially life threatening conditions such as diabetes and kidney disease.

Many patients suffering from hypertension will know that regular at home blood pressure monitoring can provide valuable complementary information to readings taken in a doctor’s surgery, where 25% of patients show higher readings due to nervousness.

Braun says it encourages people to keep a watch on their hearts by regularly checking their blood pressure, and lauds pharmacists for their role in hypertension awareness. The company has also begun a regional campaign to motivate people to take charge of their health as an overall lifestyle through healthy dietary choices and exercise.

The most recent wrist monitor, the BP3550, now incorporates an ‘EasyClick’ wrist cuff, a self-adjusting strap that automatically fastens correctly. The measurement process is made more comfortable with a new Soft-Inflation technology to take readings during inflation rather than deflation, requiring lower maximal pressure and reducing noise to a minimal level.

The new BP3550 monitors also have a positioning function to indicate the correct heart level for precision and accuracy of readings, which kicks in before measurement begins by guiding the patient’s arm to heart level by clear digital diagrams on the monitor’s display panel.

This ‘active positioning function’ is complemented by a new confirmation system that provides feedback on arm positioning throughout the measurement.

This information is stored in the monitor’s memory (up to 80 readings), allowing patients to confidently report consistent and accurate readings back to their doctor.
