Dubai skyscraper beat rivals like Big Ben, Sydney Opera House and the Statue of Liberty.

Burj Khalifa comes third in global ‘selfie’ rankings

Emaar Properties' Burj Khalifa - the world's tallest building - has been named the third most popular attraction in the world to appear in selfies, new research has found.

A study from AttractionTix.co.uk analysed the locations featured in Instagram selfies and the Dubai icon made it into the top ten.

Topping the list was the Eiffel Tower in Paris, followed by Disney World in Florida.

 

The five-year-old tower proved to be more popular than much older rivals, including London's Big Ben, Barcelona's Sagrada Familia, Rome's Colosseum, London's Buckingham Palace, the Sydney Opera House and New York's Statue of Liberty.

The top 10 'selfied' attractions, in order were (with only the top 10 giving exact record amounts):

  1. Eiffel Tower, Paris (10,700)
  2. Disney World, Florida (9,870)
  3. Burj Khalifa, Dubai (8,860)
  4. Big Ben, London (8,780)
  5. Empire State Building, New York (8,430)
  6. Sagrada Familia, Barcelona (4,970)
  7. Disneyland Paris (4,740)
  8. Colosseum, Rome (4,670)
  9. Top of the Rock, New York (4,290)
  10. London Bridge (3,820)
  11. Buckingham Palace
  12. London Eye
  13. Sydney Opera House
