Burj Khalifa turns pink in October for breast cancer awareness month

Dubai’s Burj Khalifa will be illuminated pink this October to mark the annual breast cancer awareness month.

The world’s tallest tower will turn pink on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights in order to raise awareness and funds for the cause.

Burj Khalifa’s observation deck, At The Top, will also distribute themed chocolates for every item sold at its retail stores. Furthermore, Al Jalila Foundation will donate AED1 for every item that is sold.

Visitors to the Burj Khalifa are invited to participate in the campaign by wearing pink. The colour was first associated with breast cancer in 1991 when the Susan G. Komen Foundation handed out pink ribbons to participants in its New York City race for breast cancer survivors.

The breast cancer awareness month aims to encourage women to undertake regular medical checks-ups to detect early signs of the disease and increase treatment success rates. It also aims to raise funds to help find a cure.

A breast cancer awareness initiative, the Pink Caravan, will also be launched by Friends of Cancer Patients (FoCP) in Jumeirah Beach Residence on October 14 and 15.
