The celebrity adventurer unveils plans for outdoor survival school on Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah
The Bear Grylls Survival Academy teaches his extreme survival techniques at 20 locations around the world and the academy on Jebel Jais, scheduled to open in 2020, will offer courses for individuals of all ages and fitness levels.
These include team-building activities for corporates. The academy will be run by professionals trained by the Bear Grylls Survival Academy.
Grylls is a former SAS soldier, one of the youngest climbers of Mount Everest, and a hugely successful presenter of extreme adventure shows. He is a bestselling author, BAFTA winner and an honorary colonel of the Royal Marine Commandos.
“Teamwork is the backbone of any survival situation; with it, you’re always stronger; without it, you’re in trouble,” he says.
“Everything I have learnt about business was first learnt from the wild: trust, risk management, going that extra mile, dynamic teamwork, and honest communication. There is nothing like trying to light a fire or cross a river to force you to re-engage some left brain initiative and right brain ‘calm in the storm’,” he notes.
Courses include leadership, team development, problem solving, planning, communication, decision-making, conflict resolution and trust. They include survival techniques such as how to make a fire, emergency shelters, using a knife for survival, remote medical trauma, navigation techniques, rock climbing and extreme weather survival.
