CA acquires Miramar

CA has acquired Miramar Systems in an all-cash transaction. The deal will see CA add Miramar’s desktop migration tools to its desktop management software suite.

Computer Associates (CA) has acquired privately held Miramar Systems in an all-cash transaction. The deal will see CA add Miramar’s desktop migration tools to its desktop management software suite, which already includes solutions for software distribution, asset management, remote control, data backup and restore, antivirus and vulnerability management.

“Our customers have two main goals when it comes to desktop management: reducing PC ownership costs and ensuring maximum returns on their PC investments,” says Mark Barrenechea, senior vice president for product development at CA.

“Miramar's unique products enable our customers to fulfill these twin goals, allowing them to streamline their technology migrations, accelerate their time-to-benefit for desktop upgrades and eliminate inefficient PC housekeeping," he adds.

Although details surrounding the timeline for fully integrating Miramar’s offering with CA’s are vague, the vendor is committed to tying them into its Unicenter, BrightStor and eTrust product families. Again. While information regarding the new product lines’ arrival in the Middle East is hazy, the vendor is confident that they will make an impact when they do arrive.

“With enterprises in the Middle East rapidly deploying more and more PCs in their organisations, we have seen a growing number of clients turning to us for help in managing their larger and more complex desktop environment,” says Ahmad Al Hajj, business technologist of desktop and service desk management at Computer Associates Middle East.

“For these clients, the technology CA obtained from this acquisition will translate into real business benefits, into faster and cheaper PC maintenance, upgrade and replacement,” he adds.
