Calls to upgrade water standards

Arab states have been urged to upgrade and develop national standards and specifications for water usage, especially its transportation and distribution.

Arab states have been urged to upgrade and develop national standards and specifications for water usage, especially its transportation and distribution.

A set of recommendations were made after a two-day workshop on Integrated Water Resources Management, organised last week by the Environment Centre for Arab Towns, Dubai Municipality and the United Nations Environment Programme.

The workshop also urged Arab countries to conduct research with the objective of nationalising water desalination technologies in the region; using renewable energy and protecting their surrounding environment; and attracting Arab investment in the manufacturing of related instruments and appliances.
