The Middle East division of digital imaging powerhouse Canon Inc. has opened a dedicated distribution hub in Jebel Ali, Dubai, transforming the company's supply chain in line with its European distribution approach.
According to Canon executives speaking at the firm's Concerto partner and press event in Dubai today, this hub will both enhance both Canon's supply management and customer service capabilities, as well as helping to reduce distribution costs.
"This centre will reduce our supply chain costs by 15%, and reduce our lead time for products catering to the Middle East and Africa region by 26 days," predicted Mohamed Salama, Canon Middle East's head of marketing for the Middle East and North Africa region.
Salama added that Canon's product handling capacity would also improve, suggesting an anticipated increase of 50%.
Canon's new Jebel Ali Free Zone hub will cater to over 50 countries across the Middle East and the entire African continent.
"In order for Canon to raise its competitive edge, we are implementing a series of comprehensive strategic initiatives focused on highlighting our commitment to the region, increasing our market leadership and developing a truly global footprint for Canon in the region," added Richie Cuthbert, the head of Canon Middle East's supply chain division. "Our new hub in Dubai provides us with the resources, tools and processes we need to get closer to regional customers and respond with agility to regional market dynamics," he concluded.
Mohamed Salama also confirmed today that Canon is looking to open a rep office in Morocco by the end of the year. The company has a similar rep office already in operation in Cairo, Egypt.
Today's distribution boost comes hot on the heels of Canon's announcement of a brand new B2B-focused organisation for the Emirates. Named Canon Emirates, this separate entity is a combined Canon Middle East/GIBCA venture and will be responsible for the distribution and marketing of the vendor's ‘business solutions' products in the UAE. This company is expected to oversee the opening of three Canon Business Centres around the UAE over the next twelve months. For all the latest tech news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
