Careem app offers Dubai residents additional service

All fares need to be settled in cash, or paid by credit card

Careem app offers Dubai residents additional service
Careem said existing customers will see the new Taxi car type as an option in the app (which may require an update), while new users to Careem will need to download the app from their app store and register an account to get started.

Ride-hailing app Careem has launched a booking service for Dubai's RTA taxis on its current platform.

The new service will allow Dubai residents to book one of 10,000 taxis operated by the six franchises in the emirate. Once a taxi is booked, customers will also be able to track it instantly, and check details of their bookings.

Careem said existing customers will see the new 'Taxi' car type as an option in the app (which may require an update), while new users to Careem will need to download the app from their app store and register an account to get started. Careem said no credit card details are needed to do so.

When selecting 'Taxi' as the car type, Careem will then match a customer to the closest Dubai taxi in their area. The customer will see their app screen change to “booking confirmed” and they will see the taxi number on screen so they can easily identify their driver.

The RTA will be notified of the booking and the customer’s mobile number will be passed onto them, linking them to the booking. They may share the customer’s mobile number with their driver to ensure both parties find each other.

Unlike booking Careem car types, the service does not offer customers e-mail or SMS receipts, instead they will need to ask their driver for a paper receipt at the end of the journey.

All fares need to be settled in cash, or paid by credit card when the driver has a credit card machine available.

RTA said all of its existing booking options taxis in Dubai remain in place, including the Booking & Dispatch Center (04-2080808), Smart Taxi app, and RTA Dubai app.

"The activation of the online taxi booking service via Careem app will boost the Dubai integrated transport platform project, which is currently being undertaken by RTA," said Adel Shakri, director of Transportation Systems, RTA’s Public Transport Agency.
