Careem introduces cash payments in Abu Dhabi

Careem introduces cash payments in Abu Dhabi

Dubai-based ride-hailing service Careem has introduced cash payments for its cars in Abu Dhabi.

After resuming full service in the UAE back in February, Careem customers can now pay for the Limo (Lexus cars) and MiniVan (Toyota Previas) using cash, as well as credit cards.

Careem, which remains the only ride-hailing app operating in Abu Dhabi, has a minimum fare of AED 40 for its service in the emirate.

“Abu Dhabi is a key city for us and it’s great to be back as the only players in the market,” said Bassel Al Nahlaoui, VP Business Development and Government Relations at Careem.

“Giving our valued customers the opportunity to pay with cash provides them with more flexibility around how they use the service. Careem is very much an organic, homegrown operation- so when we are asked for something, we are driven to deliver on it.  If cash is king for people in Abu Dhabi, then for sure let’s make it easy for them to pay for their rides this way.”

Due to the heavy cash-based economy, Careem first introduced cash payment in Saudi Arabia in 2013. Cash payments are also available on its Dubai service.
