Cargolux Airlines International has recently transported the heaviest cargo recorded in its company's history.

The 52 tonne rotor shaft, which took up ten aircraft positions, was carried onboard Cargolux's B747-400 freighter LX-KCV to New York. A 250 tonne crane was required to load the outsized heavy cargo, which was fixed on a 7.5 tonne steel frame and carried on a 40 feet base.

Preparation and loading was supervised by a combination of Cargolux's load controllers and Cargolux Dusseldorf management, with Agility Logistics acting as forwarding agent.

Marketing itself as off-size specialist, other heavy cargo transported by Cargolux includes flight simulators, aircraft engines, mill wheels, escalators for shopping malls, heavy machinery, vehicles, oil drilling equipment, rotors, helicopters, satellites, ship spares and entire trucks.
