A $1.5 million (AED5.5m) rented yacht carrying tourists sank near Dubai’s Jumeirah Beach Residence during a daytime trip.

A leak in the vessel reportedly led to its rapid sinking while holding 11 passengers and crew members on board.

No injuries were sustained, however, as the Russian, British and French tourists, as well as the Egyptian and Asian crew members, were quickly rescued by a nearby police boat.

The incident, which occurred at 12.45pm on Thursday, was recorded by an eyewitness who had sent the footage to a Russian newspaper.

At the time of the accident, the vessel was in shallow water, about 200 metres away from the beach.

It was later retrieved by the rental company following the rescue.
