Castles in the sand

Net Group unveils its first Abu Dhabi-based desert events venue.

Dubai-based destination management company (DMC) Net Group has opened its first corporate desert events venue in Abu Dhabi.

Khayal Al Sahara, or Sahara Illusion, is located in Al Khatem, 80km from Abu Dhabi, on the road to Al Ain and can be set up to cater to groups of up to 1200 people.

"Abu Dhabi has always been a popular venue for corporate meetings and events," said Anwar Monassar, general manager, Net Group Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

"We wanted to capitalise on this niche-market from the beginning, but also to drive our energies into the new strategy of Abu Dhabi in establishing itself as a regional centre for meetings and incentives."

Overnight guests can stay in two large covered bedrooms, traditional Bedouin-style tents, or a mattress under the stars, depending on the group's requirements.

The venue also features a covered buffet, rest rooms, kitchen support and power for A/V systems. Catering services and meals are provided by a five-star hotel in Abu Dhabi.

"The target market is represented by both local and overseas companies that are looking to integrate an adventurous programme in the desert (with dune bashing excursion and team building activities), a desert dinner evening with entertainment and special effects show, followed by the unique experience of spending the night in the desert," said Monassar.

"Fantasy has no limit; the combination of a particular style of catering, special effects and branding, team building activities and local entertainment can offer a tailor-made evening each time."
