Work will start on Falcon Island in Ras Al Khaimah this month, for an October 2016 opening
The China Harbour Engineering Company has been awarded the AED150 million ($40 million) marine and infrastructure works for Falcon Island, a AED1 billion Venice-like canal project in Ras Al Khaimah, which will include 150 villas and mansions, European-style architecture and a private beach, it was announced on Sunday.
The cornerstone of the project will be a central canal, which has been described by Al Hamra Real Estate general manager Benoy Kurien as a 'little piece of Venice in the Middle East', and which will split the island in two.
"Imagine waking up to the soothing sounds of waves hitting the beach or the chance to take in the breath taking sea views that stretch out over the Arabian Gulf, all from your own private beach. Fast forward to the evening and picture yourself enjoying a relaxing evening stroll along a palm tree-lined canal, passing through majestic parks, along boardwalks, and the serenity of your own secluded havens," said Kurien.
"This is the lifestyle that we are creating at Falcon Island: a retreat from the fast pace of the big cities, a place where families can enjoy some of the finer things in life and establish the perfect balance between elegance and sustainability," he added.
Falcon Island will also be totally powered by solar technologies and it will use a hybrid district cooling system which will provide temperature control at a fraction of conventional costs.
"China Harbour Engineering Company is a world-renowned contractor, responsible for infrastructure projects worth over $10 billion. "Through these developments we've demonstrated our ability to work to the highest standards and specifications, and we are delighted to be taking charge of the marine and infrastructure works at Falcon Island," said Li Guowei, general manager of China Harbour Engineering Company.
Work will start this month on the project, in time for an October 2016 completion date.
Falcon Island is part of the Al Hamra Village site in Ras Al Khaimah, which covers an area of 77 million square feet and includes 1.5
kilometres of beach, over 1,000 villas and town homes, nearly 2,500
residential apartments, five hotels including the Waldorf Astoria, an
18-hole golf course, a marina, and a shopping mall.
