Commission turns its attention to Intel

The European Commission is to investigate chip giant Intel. According to UK media reports, the EU’s antitrust body is close to bringing formal charges against the chip giant that allege it undermined competition by offering rebates to computer manufacturers that agreed not to use rival chipmaker AMD’s processors in their PCs.

The Commission is also reportedly looking into bringing further charges against Intel that allege it took part in predatory pricing in an effort to keep AMD’s chips out of the market.

An Intel spokesman stated the chipmaker had been cooperating fully with EU regulators.
