Company boss fined $408,000 for hiring illegal workers

Arab, Asian and African illegal staff also fined between 4-5,000 dirhams each by court.

A man has been fined 1.5 million dirham ($408,000) for unlawfully hiring 30 illegal workers.

The Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Court convicted the Asian man, of hiring workers without their official sponsor's consent, employing visitors and taking on workers whose labour visas had expired without paying their fines.

Judge Dr Ahmad Hassan Al Mutawaa also gave the illegal Arab, Asian and African workers fines ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 dirhams each, UAE daily Gulf News reported on Thursday.

In a second case, the court sentenced an Asian bakery owner to two months in jail and fined him 200,000 dirhams for illegally hiring two men who entered the UAE through the mountain borders.

Dr Judge Al Mutawaa also gave a four-month prison term for each of the illegal workers for working at the bakery in Al Qouz. They will be deported after serving their prison term.

In a third case, the Naturalisation and Residency Court fined a tourist company director 231,000 dirhams for bringing in 154 visitors and failing to send them back to their countries without rectifying their status after their visas expired.
