's latest Quick Poll revealed that Compaq is easily the most popular choice for an office desktop. In fact, almost three times more people said they would prefer to buy a Compaq machine this month than the closest branded competitor.

Compaq's 30% haul of the votes may have overshadowed Dell, which came in second, but 11% for Dell will be viewed by the vendor as a satisfactory result.

The battle for third place among the Middle East's branded PC manufacturers was fierce. Acer just grabbed the bronze with 8% of the vote, followed by IBM with 7% and HP with 6%.

The last time Middle East end user's were canvassed for their opinions on PC preferences was in 1998. At that time, Compaq won the Arabian Computer News Reader's Choice Award for best PC.
