Compaq Middle East & Africa has done a deal with
that will see Compaq's full product range sold through the popular e-shopping site.
Compaq has made several moves this year to better use the Web as a channel to market, offering customers the ability to configure and order products, receive technical support and access product information, all online.
"Today's announcement further strengthens Compaq’s positioning as being ‘everything to the Internet’ and its initiative to continue to increase online accessibility for its customers, improving levels of customer service and customer satisfaction in the Middle East," said Karen Bellwright, marketing manager, Compaq MEMA.
"Compaq has recently implemented certain Web initiatives such as CompaqPlus and Weblog which allow customers to buy and receive service and support online. With this agreement, we’re adding one more choice for our customers to purchase our products via the Web."
Web site will include a CompaqPlus banner that links the site to CompaqPlus, Compaq MEMA’s online order processing system. The move comes amongst a wider push by Compaq to use the Internet as a marketing and advertising vehicle.
Bellwright confirmed to itp.net that the regional office plans next year to double the proportion of its marketing budget devoted to online activities.
Compaq will continue to place banner advertising but will be investing more in sponsorship, e-mail marketing and affiliate programmes. "The proposal that we're looking at is pretty extensive," says Bellwright.
