Computer Associates signs StoreAge resell agreement

Management software giant Computer Associates has struck a deal to resell StoreAge’s cross-platform virtualisation and multi-tiered data protection solutions with its BrightStor intelligent storage management software.

Management software giant Computer Associates (CA) has struck a deal to resell StoreAge’s cross-platform virtualisation and multi-tiered data protection solutions with its BrightStor intelligent storage management software. CA reckons that the agreement will help customers simplify storage administration and enhance data protection in heterogeneous storage area networks (SANs).

“Organisations need to optimise storage resources and data in SAN environments while protecting critical production applications,” said Jason Phippen, CA’s director of EMEA product, marketing for BrightStor. “By offering StoreAge’s SAN volume management and data protection technology with our BrightStor software, CA will enable customers to manage large and complex storage resources more effectively.”

Research house IDC reckons that storage capacities and practices that IT managers had believed would support company growth for years to come are now only providing breathing room for a few months, resulting in frequent disruptions in systems and applications.

“The highly complementary CA and StoreAge solutions address the functional requirements of IT organisations with multi-vendor storage environments,” said Laura DuBois, research director for storage software at IDC. “Streamlined management of these environments is essential as the total volume of data grows across the enterprise, while the human resources to manage increasing volumes of data remain flat.”

CA and its authorised channel partners will initially resell StoreAge’s SAN management solutions in EMEA and North America. StoreAge’s virtualisation manager product uses a ‘split path’ architecture to provide single-point control, virtual volume management and advanced snapshot and replication technology across all storage within a SAN.

“CA’s innovative technology and industry leadership make them an ideal partner for StoreAge,” said Mark Spowart, president at StoreAge. “By working together, we can deliver comprehensive, cross-platform storage network solutions that help customers reduce the complexity and cost of SAN management.”
