Fans of social media website were unable to log on to home page
The social networking site Twitter was partially blocked in the UAE for several hours on Monday by the telecom operator du.
Fans of the website said they were unable to log onto the popular microblogging site, which has more than 200,000 users in the UAE.
“I just tried getting onto Twitter today but it’s not working - saying the site has been banned for ‘safety reasons’ by du. Anyone else having the same issue?” LoubyLou posted on Yahoo Answers.
Offices in Dubai’s Media City were unable to access to site. Du’s warning message said: “This website is not accessible in the UAE.”
Du said the block was a "glitch" that had occurred by mistake.
The UAE has the highest number of Twitter users in the GCC, according to a report by the Dubai School of Government
