Construction of a major new road in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi is now more than 60 percent complete, it has been announced.
The Madinat Zayed-Al Mirfa Road Project, which is being developed by the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi and managed by Abu Dhabi General Services (Musanada) is expected to cost about AED645 million ($175.6 million).
Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, has inspected progress on the 52.2km road, which is currently 63 percent complete, state news agency WAM reported.
The road will provide a shortcut, connecting Madinat Zayed, Al Mirfa and Habshan, it added.
The road is also a key part of the strategic road network connecting cities within Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Hamdan said the project is part of efforts to develop local infrastructure projects, which will help to strengthen the economy and society of the Al Dhafra region.
