Etisalat has completed the first phase of construction of two state-of-the-art points of presence (PoPs) that will serve as the main interconnection points for the services at the Expo 2020 site in Dubai, the company announced on Sunday.

At the Expo 2020 site, a pier of PoPs are being built to carry massive inward and outward global traffic and deliver connectivity to users visiting the site.

According to Etisalat, the PoPs will support the systems and a central telecom hub that will support the requirements of Dubai South in the years after the Expo event, including fixed, mobile, Wi-Fi and IPTV services.

The PoPs are slated to be completely built by the end of the year.

“Today’s strategic announcement is significant as it sets the path for the next level of digital infrastructure development for Expo 2020 Dubai,” said Esmaeel Alhammadi, Etisalat’s senior vice president of network development. “Etisalat will continue to work closely with the Expo 2020 in enabling digital innovation to make sure that all visitors will enjoy a seamless experience on their digital journey at the global event.”

Etisalat is the official telecommunications and digital services partner for Expo 2020.

As part of the partnership, the company will provide on-site Wi-Fi capable of handling 300,000 visitors daily.
