Construmat award for solar firm

Intemper Espanola was awarded the prize for innovation in the insulation and floor and wall coverings products category in May's Construmat Awards.

Intemper Espanola was awarded the prize for innovation in the insulation and floor and wall coverings products category in May's Construmat Awards. The firm's Evalon Solar waterproof membrane with photovoltaic modules was singled out for recognition.

The awards are presented as part of the biennial Construmat Barcelona construction exhibition and were organised in collaboration with the Department of Territorial Policy and Public Works at the Generalitat of Catalonia and the technical secretariat of ITeC.

The exhibition showcased the latest trends and new technologies in the major sectors of the construction industry including electricity, lighting, air conditioning and heating. The international bathroom exhibition formed an integral part of the event, with Amec Ascon, the Spanish Association for Bathroom and Kitchen Equipment Companies one of the organising committees.

New products for the MEP sector were well represented within this part of the exhibition, with recognition of the installation needed for their operation. Firms such as Cata Electrodomesticos showcased domestic fans, while others such as Isofix and MetalGrup exhibited pipe support systems plus brass and stainless steel fittings respectively.

A number of exhibitors at the event confirmed plans for expansion of their business into the Middle East market. Industrial valve manufacturer Genebre currently supplies products to the region directly from Barcelona but revealed that it is looking to expand business within the market.

Wolss Sunrain is also planning moves into the region. "We are really interested in the Middle East market," commented Nelia Ninerola Crusells. Nueva Terrain export manager Javier Eiriz confirmed that the firm will be exhibiting at the Big 5 exhibition scheduled to be held in Dubai in November 2007.

"By next year we will have established business with distributors [in the Emirates]. We are not yet in the Emirates but have a strong presence in Kuwait and Bahrain and are starting in Jordan now," stated Eiriz. "We are now consolidating the business with distributors and agents for the Emirates, We have a business plan underway which will take some months to start."

Held in the Fira Barcelona, the exhibition is Spain's leading trade fair and a European benchmark in the construction sector. Over 4,500 firms exhibited at the six-day event, which attracted over 286,000 visitors, an increase of 8% since the previous event in 2005.
