Dubai’s consumer electronics market size is forecast to grow at 4.7 percent over the next 4 years to exceed $3 billion by 2020, according to a recent analysis collated by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

According to the analysis, which based on the latest UAE retail sales data from Euromonitor, the portable consumer electronics sub-category is expected to keep its lead with a 2020 sales forecast of $1.27 billion.

The computers and peripherals sub-category is forecast to retain its size at $937 million, whereas in-home consumer electronics are expected to gain traction to reach $900m, while no growth will take place under the in-car entertainment sub-category with a sales forecast of US$23 million.

The report said Dubai’s retail sales activity continued to show growth despite mounting pressure from low oil prices and rising global economic uncertainties.

The main trend in Dubai last year in consumer electronics sales was a gradual move towards more compact and multi-functional devices, like tablets and smartphones, which are are enjoying solid growth in sales.
