Talk of a global recession dominates discussion during the Momentum 2008 conference
Amid talk of a recession across many of Europe’s largest economies, IT vendors are adopting a change of tact in the way they market their products to wary enterprises.
Delivering his keynote speech at Momentum Europe, Mark Lewis, president of EMC content management and archiving division, says CIOs are looking for faster results from their IT purchases.
He says the economic situation has yielded some positives for many vendors, who are now focusing on ensuring their solutions demonstrate fast results.
“The biggest buyer request we are seeing at the moment is for our new products to demonstrate a fast return of investment and the fast implementation of the solution,” says Lewis.
“Sometimes in the past we have introduced new features without looking at the ease of migration, but it is something we are trying to address,” he adds.
Lewis says that from an end-user perspective, enterprises should also ensure they are ready for the economic upswing that generally follows a downturn.
“This is clearly a challenging time but it is also a time of great opportunity,” he explains. “Enterprises need to ensure they are prepared for the future.”
The 1500 attendees at the Momentum conference are using the event to discuss ways vendors and end users can improve content management systems while still keeping a short leash on spending.
