The first day of the religious holiday is Friday September 1
The private sector in the UAE will have Thursday August 31 off for Eid Al Adha, with employees returning to work on Sunday September 3.
The news was announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation on Thursday.
Public sector employees will enjoy a longer weekend starting on Thursday and ending on Monday September 4 when staff return to office.
Last week, the Saudi Supreme Court said Wednesday will be the first day of the Islamic month of Dhu Al Hijjah, followed by Arafat Day on Thursday, making the first day of Eid Al Adha Friday September 1.
The religious holiday, which translates into “sacrifice feast,” is the second of two Muslim holidays celebrated every year. It requires worshipers to sacrifice an animal such as a sheep or goat to commemorate prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail. Meat from the sacrifice is then distributed among family, friends and the poor.
