Cosmoplast and Dodsal awarded Abu Dhabi refinery pipeline first

Cosmoplast has signed a major multi-million dollar contract for the supply of 234 km of pre-insulated pipe (PIP) to Dodsal on the Inter Refineries Pipelines Project in Abu Dhabi.

Cosmoplast has signed a major multi-million dollar contract for the supply of 234 km of pre-insulated pipe (PIP) to Dodsal on the Inter Refineries Pipelines Project in Abu Dhabi.

Dodsal is EPC contractor to Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company on the project. The PIP system involves a 545 mm multi-layered pipe for the conveyance of refinery product SSR (Straight Run Residue) that requires minimum heat loss.

The system consists of a steel service pipe coated with polypropylene (supplied by Dodsal) contained within an outer high density polyethylene jacket with a highly insulating polyurethane foam injected between the two. This application is the first of its kind in the region to be used by the oil industry.

Cosmoplast has already started delivery of pipe and associated accessories from its Abu Dhabi plant.“To meet the delivery schedule and the stringent quality standards, Cosmoplast has designed and installed in its Abu Dhabi plant a highly automated production line and testing laboratory with a capacity of 1.5 km per day,” said general manager Jim Dymock.

To meet the increasing demand of PIP systems in the Gulf, Cosmoplast has also built a 450,000 ft2 plant in Dubai Investment Park at a cost of around US $27 million(AED100 million). Here the company is planning to produce a full range of PIP and fittings.

These will include core pipes of steel, helically wound glass reinforced epoxy and glass reinforced polyester for main lines and acrylic butadiene styrene and high density polyethylene for smaller branch lines. The core pipes will all be manufactured within the company premises.
