Opening is part of IHG’s plans to open 8 new MidEast hotels this year
The Crowne Plaza Doha hotel is
set to open its doors to guests in the third quarter of 2012, it was announced
Construction of the 378-room
hotel, which is owned by the Trans Orient Establishment, began in 2009.
“Crowne Plaza Doha - The Business
Park is in the final stages of completion and is due to open in the third
quarter of the year. This project has been a number of years in the making and
is a project I am very proud of,” said Trans Orient owner Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad
bin Abdullah Al-Thani.
“Today we’re taking the
opportunity to showcase what the hotel will offer and thank those who have been
such an important part of making it happen,” he added.
Vice president of Trans Orient in
the UAE, Near East and Africa, Ignace Bauwens stated: “This will be an iconic
Crowne Plaza in the Middle East and that is reflected in the design, and
quality finish, of the hotel that Trans Orient Establishment has built.”
“Our hotel management team is in
place, led by general manager Savino Leone, and recruitment and training has
already begun for the 300 employees who will work in the hotel, so we’re on
track to greet our first guest very soon,” added vice president of Trans Orient
in the UAE, Near East and Africa, Ignace Bauwens.
Operators InterContinental Hotels
Group (IHG) will open eight new hotels across six Middle East countries during
2012, the firm’s COO for India, Middle East and Africa has
said in January.
New launches are planned for
Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon and Bahrain, John Bamsey said in
comments published by Hotelier Middle East.
“We have several openings due
across six countries in the Middle East,” said Bamsey. “For example we’ll be
expanding our presence in Qatar with InterContinental Doha The City and Crowne
Plaza Doha The Business Park.
“In Saudi Arabia we will open two
new hotels including our first Crowne Plaza in Medinah and our sixth hotel in
Riyadh (Holiday Inn Riyadh Meydan) and in Jordan we are due to open the Crowne
Plaza Dead Sea Resort,” he said.
The expansion will also include
the introduction of some of IHG’s brands to new markets.
The InterContinental brand will
debut in Kuwait, the Staybridge Suites brand in Lebanon and the Holiday Inn
Express brand in Bahrain and India.
He said portfolio growth was a
priority for 2012.
“We will continue to focus on
growth - increasing the number of hotels that our guests can choose from and
introducing new brands to our markets. We currently operate across ten
countries in the Middle East and assess each development opportunity as they
arrive,” said Bamsey.
He said in the short term the
impact of the Arab Spring and instability in some markets was increasing IHG's
focus on Saudi Arabia and emerging markets like India and African countries.
Early in 2012 IHG is set to
announce the first Hotel Indigo due to open in the Middle East.
“Overall we have nearly 100
hotels in our development pipeline across India, Middle East and Africa due to
open in the next three to five years,” Bamsey said.
Completed in 3rd Quarter of 2012? Only slightly optimistic, curently the concrete floors are only poured upto about the 8th floor!
I think they are referring to the hotel which is pretty much complete and not to the office towers as hey are building them on a demand basis because as you know there is a already a glut of commercial space.
Hotel has open vacancy and all most all staff's are planning to take from Nepal; as Nationaly Daily of Nepal The Kantipur Published Advertisment of the same. on 3/4/2012.
(any authorised persorn of the Crowne Plaza can conformed the same pls??)
Mr. CJM. as per you the hotel is still of concrete floors. when it will complete, when to decorate? when to finish the inrerior? when to complete all setup of kitchen, room, looby etc..??
more things to be done in little time. so be optimistic....
i ve applied a post in this hotel as a commi and i hope to get good response from the Crowne Plaza Doha
