UAE President's mother passes away

A three day mourning period has been announced

The mother of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has passed away on Sunday, according to a statement by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs.

Sheikha Hessa bint Mohammed Al Nahyan was the first wife of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan, the UAE’s founder president of the UAE.

The ministry’s statement said, “In the name of Allah, the merciful and the compassionate, with the hearts of believers in the judgment of God and his destiny. His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, mourns the death of Her Highness the late Sheikha Hessa bint Mohammed Al Nahyan, who moved on to her lord today.”

It announced a three day official mourning period starting today, during which UAE flags will be flown at half mast.
