22 injured in Abu Dhabi pile-up

Fog led to 44 vehicles involved in a crash on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road

Twenty-two people were injured following a massive crash in Abu Dhabi, caused by heavy fog on the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road.

A total of 44 vehicles were involved in the smash, which occurred after the Kizad Bridge area, in the direction of Abu Dhabi around 8am this morning.

Abu Dhabi Police said that two people were seriously injured as a result of the accident, while a further two people were moderately injured.

The authorities said speeding and failing to leave sufficient space between vehicles were the main causes of the accident.

Separately, three people were injured in two others accidents in the direction of Al Ain - one a collision between five vehicles and the other a six-vehicle accident.
