Mubarak Jassim Kanoo played a pivotal role in shaping Bahrain's economy and strengthening commercial relations with the UK
The chairman of Yusuf bin Ahmed Kanoo Group (YBA), Mubarak Jassim Kanoo, has died aged 88, after a long battle with an illness.
The well-known businessman passed away early morning yesterday at a private hospital in Abu Dhabi.
“It is with sadness that we announce Yusuf bin Ahmed Kanoo Group Chairman Mubarak Jassim Kanoo passed away early this morning,” Kanoo Group said in an official statement.
His funeral will be held tomorrow around noon, after dhuhr prayers, at the Manama Cemetery. Businessmen from around the world are expected to attend.
Condolences from men will be accepted at the Kanoo Majlis in Mahooz until Thursday, and from women at the late Hamad Kanoo’s home, Villa 1328, Road 3429, Block 334 in Mahooz.
Kanoo played a pivotal role in shaping Bahrain’s economy through the Kanoo Group, which employs over 4,000 people and has operations in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman and Egypt.
He also strengthened commercial relations with the UK in the 1980s, when he was recognised by Queen Elizabeth and given the title of Honorary Knight Commander of the British Empire.
Furthermore, he headed the Bahrain Charity Society and Bahrain Kidney Patients Friendship Society.
