Sheikh Mubarak Al Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah led the winners and was guest of honour at the Arabian Business Kuwait Awards 2019 on Sunday.
The event, which was sponsored by RAM and held at the Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya, gathered together Kuwait’s finest business leaders, entrepreneurs and thought-leaders and was a chance to recognise their achievements throughout the year.
“It should be said that tonight is not just about celebrating success, but rather celebrating the innovation, the hard work, the determination, the creativity and the never-say-die attitude that has seen this country become one of the most successful nations in the world,” host Tom Urquhart said at the opening of the event.
“Some of our winners are being celebrated for being the first to achieve something, some for being innovate, some for their ability to keep growing in the face of turbulent times and others because they stepped up, challenged the status quo and decided it was time to do things a different way,” Shane McGinley, editorial director of Arabian Business Group, said in a speech.
To arrive at the list of winners, a panel of senior executives from the Arabian Business team went through a long list of candidates to whittle it down to a short list. The senior editors then looked over this list again, scrutinising achievements over the year before the team came up with the final winners in each category.
Awarded Businessman of Year, Sheikh Mubarak Al Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al Sabah, founder of Action Hotels, was honoured for his pioneering development of the midscale hotel section. He founded his company in 2005, launching several of the first branded three- and four-star hotels in the Middle East, at a time when most of the market was looking only at the luxury sector.
The winner of the Businesswoman of the Year was Faten Abu-Ghazaleh, president and founder of Service Hero. According to Abu-Ghazaleh’s LinkedIn account: “What gets me going every morning is being able to help my clients understand what makes their customers tick. When I work with clients in interactive open sessions, I get a thrill in seeing them understand the impact of the market research, digital insight and other data and ideas presented and how it affects the way they do business so they can better perform.”
And the results are certainly paying off as customers service quality in Kuwait is moving in the right direction and much of this is down to the work of Abu-Ghazaleh and her team at Service Hero.
Zain Group was awarded Company of the Year 2019. Successfully serving nearly 50 million customers, Zain Group is investing heavily in Kuwait’s infrastructure, as it aims to create a foundation to deliver 5G and the interconnectivity to power the country’s fourth industrial revolution.
