A firefighter was killed trying to tackle a blaze in an under-construction tower in Business Bay on Saturday morning.

A tweet from Dubai Civil Defence said: “Corporal Tariq Abdullah Ali Al Hawai from Etihad (Union) Firefighting Centre has died while trying to control the fire that broke out… at an under-construction building located on Al Abraj Street.”

Dubai Civil Defence was alerted about the emergency at 10.40am and fire teams from Zabeel, Al-Quoz and Etihad rushed to the scene.

It is understood the fire broke out in the service floors of the building, which is under construction.

There were no reported civilian injuries.
