An eight-month old baby was killed in a fire at a villa in Al Barsha on Sunday, according to Dubai Police.

The Emirati child was in the house sleeping when the blaze broke out at approximately noon.

“Firefighters and police patrols went to the house as soon as the incident was reported,” Colonel Majid Sultan Al Suwaidi the deputy director of Al Barsha police station, was quoted as saying by Gulf News.

On Monday, Dubai’s police chief, Major General Abdullah Al Marri, visited the family to extend his condolences.

He also conducted an inspection of the house and examined forensic reports regarding the incident.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
