The driver was captured by a speed camera on Sheikh Zayed Road, 80km/h above the speed limit.

A motorist was caught by police driving at 225km/h in Umm Al Quwain.

Local police have described the speed at which the vehicle was travelling as "insane".

Traffic police caught the driver and confiscated the vehicle.

The incident was revealed by the Department of Traffic and Patrols at the General Command of Umm Al Quwain Police on social media.

The police department said it "will not tolerate" people who commit these type of traffic violations. “All legal measures will be taken against the motorist,” the statement added.

The federal traffic law states that anyone exceeding the maximum speed limit by more than 80km/h will incur a AED3,000 fine as well as 23 black traffic points. They will also have their vehicle impounded for 60 days.
