Dubai Ambulance said the crash occurred when a minibus and a truck collided
At least eight people were killed and six seriously injured in a traffic accident that took place on Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road in Dubai at 4.54am on Monday, the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services said.
In an Instagram post, Dubai Ambulance reported that the accident took place when a minibus with 14 passengers collided with a truck along Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road near Mirdif City Centre.
Dubai Police said the bus crashed into the rear of the lorry, which was stationary on the road shoulder.
Dubai Police said the bus driver and seven passengers died on the scene while two passengers sustained serious injuries and four others sustained mild injuries. All were taken to Rashid Hospital. The crash victims are all Asian nationals, Dubai Police added.
The director of Security Media, Col Faisal Al Qasim, said investigations are being carried out to determine the exact cause of the accident. He urged all motorists to practice extreme caution, respect speed limits, avoid distractions and to use indicators when changing lanes.
