The guard was on duty outside Universal American School in Festival City
A security guard at a Dubai school died after he was struck by a vehicle while on duty on Monday, according to media reports.
According to a report in Gulf News, the guard was working outside of Universal American School (UAS), which is located in Festival City.
Dubai Police have confirmed the incident.
In a statement, the school said that “an unfortunate incident took place outside the school gates of UAS on Monday afternoon which sadly resulted in the passing of one of our security guards”.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the security guard and the rest of the security team at this difficult time and we are offering our full support,” the statement added.
As per the UAE’s Federal Traffic Law which came into effect in mid-2017, failure to follow the stop sign on school buses is punishable with a fine of AED 1,000 and 10 black points, while bus drivers who fail to property use the stop sign can be punished with AED 500 and six black points.
Earlier this year, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) held a number of awareness events aimed at maintain the emirate’s eight year record of zero traffic fatalities within school zones.
