Teenager falls to death while taking selfie in Dubai

Dubai Police director of security media Colonel Faisal Al Qasim said that the girl was on the edge of her balcony in her parent’s apartment on Sheikh Zayed Road when the incident occurred.

A 16-year old girl fell to her death from the 17th floor of a building while trying to take a selfie, according to local media reports.

In a Gulf News story, Dubai Police director of security media Colonel Faisal Al Qasim said that the girl was on the edge of her balcony in her parent’s apartment on Sheikh Zayed Road when the incident occurred.

“She was standing on a chair in the balcony and trying to take a selfie when she lost control and fell to death,” Colonel Al Qasim said.

Al Qasim added that the girl’s sister witnessed the incident take place.

“Her sister said that she lost her balance (while standing) on a chair and fell off the balcony while her mobile fell inside the balcony in a dramatic way,” he said. “The girl was killed instantly.”

Additionally, Al Qasim said that Dubai Police has repeatedly warned Dubai residents to exercise caution when taking selfies.

“But now, we witnessed a different, tragic incident of a girl who died because of a selfie,” he said.
