Storms lashed the region overnight causing flooding in parts of Northern Emirates
Heavy rain and strong winds lashed the country overnight – and the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has warned there is more to come over the next few days.
Scattered showers fell over the UAE on Saturday afternoon and this was followed by heavy downpours and light thunder just before midnight, leaving many roads throughout the region in a treacherous condition.
As with last month’s storm, the northern Emirates appeared to bear the brunt of the weather, with many taking to social media to post videos of the flooding.
According to the NCM the changeable weather is expected to continue. It said that there would be clouds and rain on Sunday as well as fresh winds causing blowing dust, which will affect visibility. It also warned of rough conditions in the Arabian Sea.
Dubai Police have issued a warning to motorists to be extra vigilant. In a tweet, the authority said: “Dear drivers, reduce speed during heavy rain to avoid any hydroplaning.”
While police in Abu Dhabi warned that reckless driving can lead to a AED2,000 fine, 23 black points and a vehicle being impounded for up to 60 days.
