Portuguese football superstar has been named as the latest high-profile celebrity to secure special visa
Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has been named as the latest high-profile celebrity to have been granted the so-called Gold Card residency visa in the UAE.
The award, reported by Gulf Today, follows an announcement by the UAE Cabinet earlier this month to add athletes to the eligibility list for the residency visas.
Last month, Ronaldo spoke of his love for the city and the continued support he has received from the Arab community, as he was awarded Best Men’s Player of the Year for the sixth time at the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards.
“I have to say thank you to the Arabic community which is always great with me,” the 34 year-old said.
“I have to thank Dubai. It’s a marvellous place to be, I’m coming every year and I love this place,” he added.
The UAE's new permanent visa, which was launched last year, is intended to generate foreign investment and attract the world's top talent across many sectors.
The gold card visa is renewed automatically every 10 years, so long as holders satisfy terms and conditions.
