The UAE has implemented a nationwide ban on visiting beaches, as well as parks, gyms and cinemas, as part of strict measures announced to control the spread of coronavirus.

It is reported that the man, believed to be a personal trainer, posted a video on Instagram of himself and a friend on the beach at Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR).

A statement from Dubai Police said he ignored “the instructions of a police patrol, while mocking precautionary measures issued by health and official authorities”.

To date there have been 153 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UAE, where two deaths have been reported.

The police statement added: “The General Command of the Dubai Police warns that residents must comply with the directives issued by security entities, be they local or federal.

“If safeguards for public health are violated, residents will be held accountable and face legal measures.”
