Curfew hours imposed by authorities to run from 3pm to 6am

Saudi extends coronavirus curfew period throughout Madinah Principality

Authorities have urged people to “implement self-quarantine” at home and said citizens can leave the house between the hours of the curfew ending and starting up again only for “urgent needs”, such as for healthcare and groceries

Saudi Arabia’s Madinah Principality has extended its coronavirus-imposed curfew hours into Al-Shuraybaat, Bani Zufr, Qurbaan, Al-Jum'a, certain parts of Iskaan and Bani Khudr.

On Monday last week the kingdom announced a 21-day curfew running from 7pm to 6am. On Friday, the hours were extended to stretch from 3pm to 6am in Riyadh as well as Makkah and Medina.

This has now been extended further according to an announcement carried by the state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Authorities have urged people to “implement self-quarantine” at home and said citizens can leave the house between the hours of the curfew ending and starting up again only for “urgent needs”, such as for healthcare and groceries.

Authorities have warned that transgressors will be fined 10,000 Saudi riyals ($2,663) and could face jail for repeated breaches.

The Arab world's biggest economy has also closed down cinemas, malls and restaurants, halted flights and suspended the year-round umrah pilgrimage as it steps up efforts to contain the virus.

There are currently 1,187 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Saudi Arabia. The kingdom reported its fourth death from the virus on Saturday.
