Authorities seized 400,000 medical masks, 1,000 glasses, 25,000 gloves, 270 pieces of medical clothing and 3,900 labels
Dubai Police have arrested a gang of three Asians after seizing hundreds of thousands of counterfeit medical supplies in the emirate.
Police raided three villas in Dubai where 400,000 medical masks, 1,000 medical glasses, 25,000 gloves, 270 pieces of medical clothing and 3,900 labels – designed to conceal the origin and brand of the various products - were discovered.
The three men, of different Asian nationalities, had been promoting the rogue products over WhatsApp.
Colonel Salah Bousaiba, director of the Economic Crime Department, revealed that the arrests came following a tip-off about the illegal activity.
Following collaboration with the Centre for Criminal Data Analysis, the three were closely monitored.
Bousaiba said: “It became clear from the follow-up that the gang was using three villas in several areas in Dubai as stores to store, repackage and sell these medical products, so all legal measures were taken, and the raid operation that resulted in controlling these large quantities of medical masks, and medical glasses of unknown origin, was carried out.”
Brigadier Jamal Al-Jallaf, director of the General Department of Investigations and Criminal Investigations, stressed that every effort is being made to ensure there are no individuals or groups looking to take advantage of the current coronavirus crisis.
