UAE prosecutors order arrest of Emirati for 'racist comments'

A prosecution spokesperson warned that all social media users must adhere to the UAE’s laws and respect its values.

The UAE Federal Public Prosecution has ordered the arrest and detention of an Emirati media personality for making racist comments, according to the state-run WAM news agency.

According to WAM, the Emirati – identified only as ‘TM’ – caught the eye of prosecutors after they saw a video being circulated online which “sought to create divisions based on ethnicity and nationality among the various communities living in the UAE.”

“The video was particularly offensive to one community,” the story said. “It was found to be an affront to the UAE and its efforts to disseminate the values of tolerance, besides violating the UAE’s foundational principles of justice and equality.”

No further details were provided.

A prosecution spokesperson warned that all social media users must adhere to the UAE’s laws and respect its values.

“These are our fundamentals and no infringement on them will be tolerated,” he added.
