'My First Horse' tells the story of Um Halaj and the Dubai ruler's affection for horses
Subscribers to the You Tube channel of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, vice president and ruler of Dubai, are being treated to an insight into the life of the emirate’s leader.
A new video has this week been uploaded onto the site, entitled ‘My First Horse’, a seven-minute feature on Um Halaj, Sheikh Mohammed’s first horse.
In the film he said: “I’ve loved horses since I was a child. I grew up as part of a family in which horses were loved.
“When my mother would look for me and not find me in my bed at night, she knew that she might find me in the stable.”
Sheikh Mohammed’s 416,000 subscribers are taken on a journey from when he first met his horse, who was injured, and how he nursed it to health, feeding and training it for its first race, something he describes as “one of the most important projects of my young life”.
The story is told in Arabic with English subtitles, with a mixture of archive footage and re-enactments.
‘My First Horse’ appears to be the first episode of many taken from Sheikh Mohammed’s memoir, My Story: 50 Memories from 50 Years of Service.
Sheikh Mohammed’s racing operations include the ownership of Darley Stables, while he is the leading partner in his family’s Godolphin Stables.
